The new Martha Mary Guild’s Savoring Silver Lake: Recipes and Reveries cookbook is out and the accolades are rolling in! "So much about the Village history I didn't know!"; "Lots of great, simple recipes!"; "WOW!!"; "Love the tie-in between the recipes and the unique history of the Village"; "I have sticky notes sticking out from every section of the book marking the recipes I'm going to try first"; “Brings back lots of memories of growing up here”; "These make great gifts, I want to order more!"; “Loved Bonnie McCombs’ story about swimming the lake – I never had the guts to try that!”; “If I didn’t already live here, I’d want to move to Silver Lake!”; “I thought this was going to be just another church cookbook – it is far more than that, and the recipes sound great!”; "Joan, I have to have more - save me a box, the check is in the mail!"; “Thanks for the photo of my house in the book!”; “SLAPO – Silver Lake Amateur Players Organization – haven’t thought about that in years. We should do that again!”; “You’d best be near a chair the first time you open it, because you are going to sit down and read it all the way through. A good book to read to the children, too!” etc. etc. etc.
Spread the word to every one you know! Those who once lived in Silver Lake will want to know about this cookbook. If you know anyone who attended Silver Lake School there is a fascinating history of it. All the Garden Club members can take pride in the praise the book gives to that organization. The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are in here as well as the social clubs in the Village and a brief history of the church. Take pride in our community, read the history and reveries. Enjoy cooking simple dishes or complex. All are tasty and have earned kudos from friends and family members, that is why they are included here. And remember to get some extras. The first cookbook the Guild did became scarce as hen’s teeth!! Today it is considered a rare book.
The new cookbook can be purchased at the church office, weekdays, 8am – noon. Cost is $25. If shipping is necessary, the cost is an extra $5. Make checks out to Martha Mary Guild. If this is not a convenient pickup time for you, other arrangements can be made.
Staples has some sturdy white boxes that come in packs of 5. They can be quickly assembled and the cookbooks fit in the box perfectly. Add some tissue paper and a card for a dash of class. Remember, lots of holidays are coming up: President’s Day, Groundhog’s Day, birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, new neighbors are moving in, some are moving out, all would like this book.  And send them off to your scholars at colleges and universities. The book will set off some grand memories.
With the monies from the cookbook gathered in, the Guild will work with the Trustees and others to redesign the church’s kitchen and get new equipment, flooring, plates, silverware, etc. to make it a kitchen that community groups will be able to use, and that will function with greater ease for all the delicious church meals served out of it.
